On October 17, 2009 Lynn turned the big 6-0. This was a win for the record books. When she was diagnosed over 30 years ago, the doctors swore to her that her health would deteriorate to such a degree that she would be confined to a wheelchair and to the 24 hour care at the facility of her choice.
Lynn made some choices that day, but not one of them was planning her stay at the "Old People's Home". She chose to control her disease and not let the disease control her life. She chose to never miss a band concert, dance recital, track meet or school play. She chose to be a leader in her church and community. She chose to celebrate all the good things that life has handed to her over the years, not to mourn the things that she could not control.
She has never seen herself as disabled. She sees herself as lucky. She has a great family, (myself included I hope) amazing friends and a network of support that would never let her waiver. However, the choice has always been hers and she made the most important choice of all…she chose to live.
